Flying Sites
There are many fantastic slope flying sites
scattered around the territory of Hong Kong, many of these sites are
accessible
either by private cars or public transport. Apart from those prohibited
sites clearly specified by the country park authority, people interested
in r/c soaring can fly on any suitable slope. Our club does not own or
operate any flying field, however, when we are holding competition
there, we do request other pilots to cooperate and observe our rules no
mater whether they are our club's members or not. Our soaring
activities are basically slope soaring, although a few of us do enjoy
thermal soaring. Short
descriptions about our major flying sites are given below.

Clearwater Bay East-Facing Slope
Clearwater Bay is by far the most popular flying site in the territory,
partly because it is accessible by public transport. It is situated in eastern part of
Sai Kung peninsula. The flying site is just at the road side. The surrounding
scenery is one of the most attractive in Hong Kong. Suitable wind directions are east
and northeast.

Fei Ngo Shan East-Facing Slope
Fei Ngo Shan (Kowloon Peak) is another easily accessible site. You may visit
there by private car. The flying sites are at the road sides or
nearby hills. On the peak, you can fly sailplane on the east-facing slope
overlooking Sai Kung country park or on the southwest-facing slope overlooking
Kowloon peninsula. Suitable wind directions are east, south and southwest.

Fei Ngo Shan Southwest-Facing
Slope
The southwest-facing slope in Fei Ngo Shan peak is just at the road side
overlooking the old Kai Tak airport. Although the good old days of
watching landing of big commercial flights no longer remains, it
is visually appealing to watch landing of model sailplanes on the jaggy
edge of the slope.

Fei Ngo Shan Jat's Incline South-Facing Slope
The mountain range in Fei Ngo Shan cultivates many flyable slopes for
different wind directions. The slope along the Jat's incline is well
suitable for wind direction from south. This is one of the best slope we
fly during Summer season.

|
Fei Ngo Shan Shatin Valley
North-Facing Slope
The scenic beauty of our slopes is one of the attractive
force pulling us together to enjoy this healthy sport. On the other side
of the Fei Ngo Shan's range, the slope that is overlooking Shatin valley
is a good soaring slope suitable for wind from north. This is our best
playground during winter season.

Ma On Shan East-Facing Slope
Located on the highland half-way between Ma On Shan and
Sai Kung with a scenic view of Sai Kung coastal area, this long
east-facing slope is one of the best for slope racing on windy days.
|
|
Shek O East-Facing Slope
Located on the Shek O peninsular in Hong Kong
island. This slope is also popular for paragliders, so be prepared to
share the airspace. The slope lift is one of the best in the
territory.
