F3F
Slope Race in High Junk Peak
9
January, 2005
|
|
|
A F3F competition was held on Sunday, 9
January 2005. The venue was originally scheduled to be in Ma On Shan
east-facing slope. However, the wind direction was
unfortunately from north to
northeastern, so Ma On Shan's slope is not suitable.
The race was
re-located to High Junk Peak in Sai Kung peninsular.
This slope is long and steep and is suitable for northeasterly wind. In
fact this slope was just discovered by some fellow r/c glider pilots a
week ago and most of the contestants have never been to this slope
before. High Junk Peak is also called Tiu Yue Yung in Chinese which is
actually located not far away from the Clearwater Bay flying site. We
have been noticing for this slope for a long time whenever we drive pass
it along Clearwater bay road, but we never have the will to hike up
there thinking that this is a very difficult hike. In fact, the trial
going up to the peak from the main road is an easy trial which took us
about half an hour of effortless hike! When we got up there at about
12:30pm, the wind was blowing at an average speed of 30km/hr,
wonderful! We quickly
set up our equipment and the race was started exactly at 1:00pm. Angus
led the race with a 44.38s in the first round and continue to win
the champion of the day. His RaceM dashed through
the air with impressive speed! I am sure more RaceMs will be seen
in Hong Kong in the coming race circles. The wind gradually died down to
about 4km/hr in the afternoon and the race was finally called off at
4:30pm after four rounds were completed. Here are the detailed scores
for the race:

This is the first time an F3F race was held in this
slope. In fact most of the pilots in the race have never been to this
slope before |

See the High Junk Peak in this photo. The slope is
just wonderful for
northeasterly wind
