Handlaunch Glider Duration Contest

The Hong Kong Radio Control Soaring Society organized a handlaunch glider duration contest on
Sunday, 15 May 2005.
This is the first DLG contest for the year 2005. The flying site is on an abundant quarry field in Suk Kwu
Wan, Lamma Island. The weather was fine
with very high temperature measured at 35°C on site.
A total of 13
enthusiastic pilots and their guests participated in this event. The
contest was started at 10:10am with contestants competing on Task B, that means 7 minutes
of duration with multiple launch, and the last lunch counted.
Unfortunately, after two rounds of contest, the ground temperature
soared to the highest, and one of our fellow pilots had developed
symptom of dehydration and felt very sick. We then determined to put on
hold the contest and went to the seafood restaurant in So Kwu Wan for an
early lunch while the poor sicken fellow pilot was rushed to hospital by
marine police. After having full lunch, most of the pilots decided to
continue the contest. Meanwhile, the sicken pilots was
recovering very well in hospital and was immediately discharged. He even
decided to come back to the flying site to re-join the contest! What's a
guy! In the afternoon, three addition rounds of contest were finally completed. The champion of the
day is Cheng Wan Kin. His flying machine was again proved
invincible! Congratulation!
