Hand Launch Glider Thermal Duration Contest

The Hong Kong Radio Control Soaring Society is going to hold a hand/discus launch glider competition on Sunday, 3 February 2008. The venue for the event will be in Suk Kwu Wan,  Lamma Island.  Please see the map below to check on the location. We will arrange rounds of competitions.  Please see the Contest Rules. Basically, Task A of the contest rules will be used in the contest. All are welcome!

Contest:           Handlaunch Glider Duration Contest
Date:                3 February 2008 (Sunday)
Time:                Pilot briefing at 10:00 pm, contest started at 10:30 am
                          (we will meet at the Sham Wan quay for the boat ride at 8:30 am , 30 minutes earlier than as planned)
Venue:              Suk Kwu Wan Quarry field, Lamma Island (Please see more information below)
Registration:    Limited to 20 competitors, advance registration preferred
Fee:                   $10 (member), $20 (non-member)

*  Boat fare from Aberdeen to the flying site is about $25 per person one way. A boat can take a maximum of 6 persons. We will have about one and half hour lunch break. Lunch will be in a sea food restaurant on the island. Arrangement will be made with the restaurant to provide transport from and to the flying site during lunch break. Cost for the lunch will be equally divided.
 

Other information

  • There will be a 30 minutes practice time prior to the contest  for fellow pilots to test the course for landing.
  • We will run at least 8 rounds of competition, however, if time is allowed, CD may decide to run one or  more rounds.

Please note that if the forecast wind speed that day is higher than scale 2, we may choose to hold the 60" F3F race instead (for details, please see 60" F3F Slope Race in Ma On Shan). Please check on this page the night below the contest.

Driving Information (See a panorama view of the flying site)

Lamma Island is on the southern part of the Hong Kong territory. The flying site is on an abundant quarry field in Suk Kwu Wan. We can rent a Chinese Junk boat to get there from Sham Wan, Aberdeen (please see the map below). The ride takes about 30 minutes. You can park your car in a covered car park (inside South Wave Court) in Sham Wan for just $35 per day and then walk down to the quay as shown in the map below. Please arrive at the quay at 8:30am and the boat will depart shortly.
