F3F
Slope Race in Ma On Shan
28
August, 2005

|
A F3F competition was held
in Ma On Shan on Sunday, 28 August 2005.
The weather was as predicted, strong easterly wind
with lots of sunshine, what a wonderful condition for F3F contest! The
average wind speed was 12 m/s and the wind was straight to the slope -
perfect! The contest was started at 11:00am with 10 pilots. Sorry for Ah
Wing not be able to take part in the race because his Hypnosis was
plunged into a tree during landing with severe damage, what a bite! Ah
Wai kicked off the race with a convincing 42.99 - wow! This is certainly
a good start after waiting 7 months for the right season. Stanley did
poorly in the first flight with his brand new Aris for which he has only
about 10 minutes of stick time before the race. However, he managed to
adapt a new style of flying and learned the potential of the plane. He
got a 40.74 in the second flight - what a great improvement! Stanley
continued to perform well with a 39.91 in round 4 - the first thirty
ever recorded in Hong Kong! This record soon be replaced by another
record of 36.15 in round 5, congratulation! Chan Kwok Wai (Ko Lo
Wai) showed us his master skill not only in repairing the rip wing of
his New Sting but also the potential of pushing the plane to it limits
with a personal best of 38.16. Angus performed consistently well with
his Aris in the beginning, but after a few cuts in round 5 and 7, he was
gradually slipping behind. His landing after round 8 went into a
disaster. The inner nose cone of his brand new Aris was broken in
disbelief, what a bite to him! The race was called off after 9 rounds at
3:30pm, not only because we didn't want to have more rounds as time was
allowed but there were heavy casualty in landing. In the end, there were
only 4 planes left that were still capable of airborne - what's a fierce
fighting you see! Even though the casualty was high, everybody was
happier, because they all got their new personal bests, wonderful! The
organizer wishes to thank numerous tireless helpers, in particular, C.M.
and Ah Wing for manning the bases. See you in the Hong Kong F3F Open!
