F3F Slope Race in
High Junk Peak
January 07, 2007 |
|
The first F3F competition for
the Year 2007 was held
in High Junk Peak on Sunday,
7 January,
2007.
The race is the first full
F3F race for this year windy
season. The race was originally scheduled to
be run in Ma On Shan, but the wind direction was changed to northerly,
so we moved to High Junk Peak instead. In the early morning, about a dozen enthusiastic r/c
pilots arrived at the Clearwater Bay road car park
near High Junk Peak. They decided that HJP is suitable to host the race
and started hiking up to the flying slope at 10:00am. When they
were on the top, they discovered that the wind was right on the slope
and the wind was strong at 6m/s. Wonderful! They immediately assembled
their planes for test fly. The landing was quite difficult because there
were lots of turbulence. Stanley had a crash landing and almost damaged
his plane. After a bit delay due to the late arrival of the timing gear,
the race was officially started at 12:05pm. 11 pilots joined the
contest. Mak took the first round by a thinned margin. Johnson was the
unlucky guy. He scored pretty well in the first round, but his Trinity
was badly damaged on a hard landing after finishing the first round. So
he had to use a 60" MiniNYX for the rest of contest, poor chap! Mak took
the second round again with a stunning 48.48s, the only sub fifty in the
whole contest! His brand new Aris was performing fabulously. Yes, his
Aris is new in a sense that it has been lying somewhere in a UK airport
for three months after its mysterious trip to Viking Race 2006 in
Scotland. It only surfaced when the Englishman found time to clear up
the stuff during Christmas holiday! Mak continued to take the lead with
a big margin while the second and third places were fierce fights. The
wind gradually died down after round 6 and the contest was drawn to
conclude at 4:15pm with 8 rounds of contest.
Congratulation to K.Y. Mak in winning the contest and also
to be crowned the title of the
first Hong Kong Speedy Man for year 2007! Here are the
summarized scores
for the race, for details, please check the
score sheet
. HKRCSS here wishes to thank the sponsor Smart Model
for the donation of a prize.
