A F3F competition for 60" model gliders was held
in Ma On Shan on Sunday, 5
November, 2006.
The race is the first F3F race for this year windy
season. In the early morning, about a dozen enthusiastic r/c
pilots converged to Ma On Shan car park
to start hiking up to the flying slope. Stanley was among the
first batch that arrived at 9:00am. After parking his car, he noticed
that there were nails that was punched through two of his car wheels. Oh
goodness! Some horrible people had burned down a used car seat in the
open field car park, left with them was hundred of big nails scattered
around, these are car wheel killers! The damaged wheels have to be
repaired quick, so he quickly went down to Tai Wai where he might be
able to find a garage for help. The damage was found to be quite serious
and a recommendation was given to replace all the wheels with new ones!
Money burned! By the time, he went back and hiked up the slope, it was
already 11:15am. The enthusiastic
pilots were waiting to start the race as soon as the
wind picked up. Stanley quickly assembled his Prodij to test for the
wind. But for some unknown reasons, there were no r/c response of the
plane after it was launched straight out of the slope. It finally went
hundreds of meters down in the dense jungle of the valley. Oh no! The
weather was hot, the old man dared not to face the challenge of
struggling across the dense jungle for hours, so the decision was to
abandon his beloved Prodij. In about the same time, Ah Sang, the
Taiwanese who whole-heartily flew to Hong Kong from Taiwan to join this
race, was in trouble in locating his MiniNYX after it was force-landed
near the slope ridge only 100 meters away. It took him 4 hours in
searching every inch of the area, but still he could not find it,
what's
a pity and frustration for him after a long journey from home!
After all these unfortunately events, the race was
finally started at 12:10pm. A total of 16 pilots were competing in the
contest. In the first two rounds, the wind was so variable that there
were many pickups as a result of force-landings and abandons in the
slope! Ah Pong took the first round with a 70.94s - what a slow start!
If not C.M. crashing his plane after leg 8, he would not have otherwise
succeeded. After learning a lesson, C.M. flew carefully with a dazzling
60.96s and grabbed the second round. Stanley was in trouble again, his
backup plane, Shooting Star, was flipped over after launch! This gave
him a DNS and the chance of winning the contest was slim even though he
did very well in the forth and sixth rounds with a 1000. Ah Pong
continued to take the punch with a sparkling run of 53.31s in the fifth
round which ultimately crowned him the title of speediest man. The
contest was finally concluded with six rounds at 4:45pm. Congratulation
on Ah Pong in winning the contest! Here are the
summarized scores
for the race, for details, please check the
score sheet

HKRCSS also organized a BBQ gathering after the race.
The venue is in Ma On Shan BBQ ground. There were over 20 pilots and
their guests joining the BBQ. Good food with friendly discussion in all
aspects of r/c soaring marked the success of this function. Cheers and
see you next year!
